Luz is a diary first. What you log stays with you; only what you choose to share with others goes to Luz's servers.
Your diary stays yours
Your coffees, beans, photos, stickers, diary entries, score sheets and the songs you add are kept on your iPhone, and in your own iCloud if you use it. We can't see them. Nobody else can.
What an account keeps
You only need an account for the social side of Luz. With one, Luz's servers keep:
- your name, your @handle, your photo and the city you give;
- the email address Sign in with Apple passes on (it can be Apple's private relay address);
- the stories you post, with their photos, and your comments and likes;
- the baristas and cafés you follow;
- coffees you choose to share with a barista's or café's page;
- your ratings of beans, if you turn on adding them to what everyone tasted (they're kept without your name or notes);
- reports you make, with the reason you give.
Who sees what
- Stories from baristas can be public, on Luz and on luz.coffee. Everyone else's stories are private.
- Who follows whom isn't shown to anyone. Baristas only see other baristas they follow who follow them back.
- Who liked a story isn't shown, only how many.
- luz.coffee shows only public things: baristas' pages, cafés on Luz, public stories, Barista of the day. Never anyone's diary.
Your location, camera and microphone
Luz uses your location on your iPhone to fill in the café you're at, and to find cafés near you. It isn't kept on our servers. The camera takes photos of your coffee; the microphone listens for a moment, only when you ask, to recognise the song that's playing (with Apple's Shazam).
No tracking
Luz has no ads and no analytics, and doesn't share anything about you with other companies or follow you around other apps and websites. luz.coffee sets no cookies.
Where it's kept
Account data is stored with Supabase, which runs Luz's servers. luz.coffee is served by Cloudflare. Neither may use it for anything else.
Deleting and exporting
You can export everything in your account (Settings, Export data) and delete your account (Settings → Profile), which removes everything in it from our servers. Your diary on your iPhone is yours to keep or delete.
